Memorial Mile 2020 click the arrows to move through the tour

In 2006 Scott Camil had an idea . And Memorial Mile was born
And so the work began

100 + volunteers installed the first display

They Set up 24 hour stations to guard the display and inform the public
The VFP Memorial would end when the war did
In a year
or two
Or 5 years
The South side of 8th Ave was full & the display crossed over to the North
As Years Passed The Tombstones filled both sides of the road
For Each visitor there is a flag
And the Volunteers helped them find their loved ones
More Families came every year
And Every Year the Cost of War Project Hung on the Playground fence
The National Priorities Project Showed what we could do
Local Soldier's personal cost of war
And Finally the Take-down with more volunteers
in 2019 The City of Gainesville recognized the Memorial by officially designating the mile where the display takes place as the "Memorial Mile"
